Positive: we have visited before so rebooked as we love it there, the property is large with three bedrooms three reception rooms large kitchen diner master bedroom with en suit a separate shower room and separate cloak room 2nd double room and a twin room, lovely garden with hot tub, all in all a beautiful place to be and even better as it was just my husband and myself, and the castle just across from the gatehouse is perfect to go eat at the restaurant, the staff are fabulous we would highly recommend the gatehouse.

Negative: unfortunately this time at visiting the gatehouse there was a terrible pungent smell and it was mainly in the 2nd double bedroom and hallway, it was definitely a strong overpowering smell of Indian cooking but not in the kitchen mainly in the 2nd bedroom, my husband had to wash all the plates, and bowels in the dishwasher and clean the complete kitchen before we could start our break. My husband went to reception to report it they were incredibly apologetic we certainly weren’t complaining we just needed it resolved and to be fair while we were out they placed a timed air freshener in the bedroom and they’d had a clean round, unfortunately even with windows open and we bought candles and the air fresher spraying periodically didn’t completely eradicate the smell, but we just carried on it didn’t spoil our break.

Summary: extremely private, extremely relaxing, all round a beautiful place to stay we will certainly return yet again
