A one-of-a-kind maisonette in London's "cultural capital". A bright space over 3 floors filled with original art, antiques and other found curiosities. I fell in love with the building the moment I saw the double heighted celiings with book cases traveling up the staircase to the rooftops that were flooded in light from the roof lights above. It's been my greatest joy to design the interior in a way that feels surprising and inspiring yet still feels homely (nothing like a showroom). The real wood burning stove is also a real rarity in London and helps add to the welcoming vibe. Everything has been made using the highest quality materials (no ikea in site) and picked up from travels through remote Scotland, India and other favourite corners of the world. I come from a family and friendship circle of artists so there is a lot of original works that have been chosen specifically for the space. Architecturally the space has been opened up to flood the house with as much light as possible, with double heighted ceilings and open plan living and kitchen space. Perfect space for dinner parties as the open kitchen naturally weaves into and a relaxing lounge area with a large designer sofa. The double heighted celling also makes for a nice bathing experience as you can lie in the bath looking up through the sky light to the stars (and the separate shower caters for even the tallest guests). When not napping by the fire or relaxing in the garden I'm often found surrounded by candles in the bath at the end of the day infant of a film on my laptop! There is also a private south facing garden with a wood burner and space for outdoor dining when the British weather allows. It is well sheltered from the wind so is a real heat trap throughout the year. Right in the heart of Camberwell, you get a sense of "real" London culture - buzzing with independent restaurants, coffee shops and bars, as well as art galleries, sprawling green parks and unusual music venues (Jazz in the church crypt). The balance of having some of Londons best and most buzzing food, street life and entertainment while having complete silence and tranquility inside and in the back garden which backs onto a private gated community. Situated above a lovely coffee shop with freshly baked bread and pastries as well as a wonderful brunch menu, quality groceries and great coffee. It is the un-touristy side of London's culture, known well by locals but not often known about by tourists and great for celebrity spotting local musicians and artists. The perfect spot for someone looking to relax in the space but also have a unique experience of local London and go back with a few more interesting stories to tell.
