Town: Poulton is a small rural historic village situated close to the Cotswolds’ Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, approximately 24 miles south east of Gloucester. Poulton was registered in the Domesday Book of 1086 as Poltone. Historically, the village was part of the county of Wiltshire and for centuries was—physically detached from Wiltshire – an enclave of Gloucestershire. In 1844, Poulton became part of Gloucestershire under the Counties (Detached Parts) Act. Poulton is now home to a community run village shop, a local pub, The Falcon Inn, a traditional British country dining pub serving locally brewed cask ales, an interesting wine list and classic English dishes and a village hall. A wide range of activities is on offer including water skiing, cycling, horse riding, boating, golf and fishing and for the nature lovers the park offers an abundance of bird and animal life, all of which can be seen throughout the year on the three nature reserves. A little further afield visit the historic town of Malmesbury with its 12th century Benedictine abbey and Westonbirt Arboretum with an extensive collection of trees and shrubs. The honey-coloured Cotswold towns of Stow-on-the-Wold and Bourton-on-the-Water and the university city of Oxford are also easily accessible.
