Sarah and Jane Bird inherited this two-storey cottage in 1888 from their father Abraham, who purchased it in 1870 from Alfred Martin, for whom it was built circa 1839. Sarah died in 1890 and Jane sold the property in 1895 to E.M.A. Dodds.
This two bedroom cottage is located in a very quiet residential neighborhood that was originally home to several ice houses serving Brighton and Hove. The cottage was extensively renovated in 2000 and again in 2017 and preserves the charming and eccentric quality of a 175-year-old building combined with modern comfort.
Furnished with a mixture of antiques, original artwork, and carefully chosen new items, it has two full bathrooms, a dedicated desk area with Aeron chair, a comfortable bespoke sofa-bed, fully equipped kitchen, dishwasher, clothes washer, and (unusual for England) a separate tumble dryer.
